“The China Syndrome” used to be a nuclear industry slang term for a reactor melting down through the bottom of its containment structure — in fanciful terms, all the way to China. There was even a movie with Jane Fonda.

The modern China Syndrome, at least in Ohio, is a campaign designed to drum up support for a restoration of the nuclear industry bailout (while said nuclear industry is trying to prevent a referendum against it) — by scaring people into thinking China’s taking over Ohio’s electric utility supply.
