Gasoline prices are heading down for the nonce — with some parts of the U.S. reporting less than $2 a gallon — for a variety of reasons. Meanwhile, automakers are trimming their payrolls and their production lines to reflect the fact that smaller sedans aren’t selling and sport-utility vehicles and king-sized luxury pickups are. In fact, Jeep is unveiling its first pickup in decades and it’s a far cry from the Scrambler of days long past. (Then again, how long has it been since a Jeep was a jeep?)
